Babies, Babies, Babies

One of the things that I was really looking forward to in this new life was the babies. Although I am quite convinced that I am past adding babies to my own family, I will admit that there have been times when I thought wistfully about the special joy that a baby brings. So although I knew that the home that I am head of has the majority of the school age children in it, I also hoped for babies. And dreams do come true...there are 6 babies here now, or really five if you don't count Sheng An who is a big boy of 2 already. Each one has his or her own challenges to overcome and all but one is developmentally delayed. Each one is a bud at a different stage of blossoming. We have been here just five days and already I have come to know and love each one.

Let me tell you about TT. She has just turned one, and is a BIG girl. I mean a BIG girl. This child has not missed any meals, and it's easy to see why. She is a favorite of all the ayis, and she protesteth MIGHTILY when things don't go her way, so she is quite spoiled. Somehow she is exempt from the nap schedule and bedtime. Hmmm. I have already tried to work on this, but it will take a bit to bring TT into line. She is a great crawler and is working hard on walking -- heaven help us! She is quick and inquisitive and not easily moved when she finds something interesting, like the internet wiring. She pulls up on everything and anything and uses a small stool to cruise around the living room. She is as clever as can be...and did I mention that she is blind? Well, she does see light and dark, and I am not convinced that she doesn't see quite a bit more than that. Hopefully we can get a good evaluation for her and understand just what impairment there may be; I can already see she has no limitations! This little girl will do whatever she wants and not let a little thing like impaired vision stop her. :)
