Now, Beijing!

Hong Wei's first flight

Prince Gong's Palace...a smaller version of the Forbidden City, but still not small at all! The garden was really the highlight; we could have stayed there all day exploring all the paths among the rocks and water features. I had never heard of this place, but it's worth a visit.

Then we hiked through the hutongs to HouHai -- much to the dismay of the HUNDREDS of idle rickshaw drivers hawking their hutong tours. In Houhai I found the Peking Duck restaurant that Kristen had enjoyed so much in January. We also enjoyed it very much...

After lunch we decided to take a pedal boat on the lake where some of us worked off our lunch and all of us laughed a lot.

Then we hiked some more, this time from the Drum Tower in Gulou (the fake pitstop on the Amazing Race!) to our friend Kirsty's house. THIS is the way to see the hhidden treasures of Beijing...

Kirsty gifted us with an American-style bbq and an English speaking pre-teen (her daughter, Yuan). Both of which were very much appreciated!
